Specializing in Women's Health Issues and Orthopedic Conditions

About Joylin Zimmerman, PT, CMPT

Who I am

I began Joint Effort Manual Physical Therapy in January 2008 because I wanted to work according to my philosophy of care. I did not want to treat patients according to what insurance companies stated they needed. My philosophy of care is to provide one-on-one hands on care that addresses the root causes of pain, infertility, and other symptoms in a compassionate, caring, and respectful relationship. I have been a physical therapist for over 14 years. I am a Board Certified Manual Physical Therapist (CMPT) through the North American Institute of Manual Physical Therapy.

What I do

I have designed an innovative combination of manual orthopedic and visceral physical therapy that has resulted in rapid decrease in pain and symptoms and return to full recovery. I am highly skilled in using my hands to palpate sites of joint and soft tissue dysfunction and use site-specific manual therapy to address these issues. I have specific expertise and positive outcomes in dealing with chronic pelvic pain and dysfunction. I specialize in treating patients that have been unable to find relief with traditional therapy.

What I believe

I believe all parts of the body that have some association with the dysfunction should be examined and treated. This is a foreign concept to traditional therapy. The human body is a complex system that is dependent on the well-being of the joints, muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments, arterial supply, and the viscera. This highly complex system demands more than stretching and strengthening exercises for optimal healing.

My Philosophy of Care

The way I care for my patients is not just about their physical wellbeing.

I am very invested in their emotional and spiritual well being. I am there for them to be accountable to, to provide hope, and healing so that they can began to live. I want them to know that they are not their infertility or their pain. As their bodies begin to heal, they are able to see beyond their pain and/or infertility and they can see all their new options for life. This allows them to heal physically, emotionally and spiritually and begin to live again.

By the time most patients come to me, they have stopped living. This has affected not only them, but also their families, friends and their jobs. They are no longer involved in the activities that brought them happiness and joy. I am not only helping them to heal, I am also allowing their families to heal and begin living again.

My Training and Professional Relationships

I am a Florida State Licensed Physical Therapist and am Board Certified Manual Physical Therapist. I have a Master of Science, Physical Therapy and a Bachelor of Science, Anatomy & Physiology from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, MI.

I have 14 years experience in clinical practice, and 7 years in women's health.

I am a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and have been involved specifically in Women's Medicine since 2001. I am also a member of the International Pelvic Pain Society and of the Orthopedic Section of the APTA.
